The Haras d’Etreham announces 2023 fees for the stud’s jumps stallions, including new recruit PARADISO
On the eve of a superb weekend of National Hunt racing on the occasion of the 48h of Jumping at Auteuil, the Haras d’Etreham is pleased to announce 2023 covering fees for Goliath du Berlais, Latrobe, Masked Marvel, Saint des Saints and exciting new addition Paradiso.
A high-class new recruit joins Goliath du Berlais, Latrobe and Masked Marvel at the Haras de la Tuilerie for the 2023 season. This is none other than the first and only son of Kapgarde at stud, the exceptional Paradiso. Like Saint des Saints, a leading jumps sire over the past 20 years, Paradiso hails from a cross between the best of jumping bloodstock and a maternal bloodline which has enjoyed success at the highest level on the flat.
Described as “a Ferrari who jumped faster than his rivals, with the class of a flat racer,” by his trainer David Cottin, he demonstrated his precocity and talent from the beginning, winning on his debut in April of his three-year-old season, by a margin of eight lengths in the prestigious Listed Prix Wild Monarch. One month later, the handsome and powerful dark bay shone again, in the Listed Prix Stanley, beating the future Gr.2 Prix Congress winner Latino des Isles by six lengths.
In the Gr.3 Prix Aguado, Paradiso simply confirmed his superiority over his contemporaries, scoring easily to end his spring campaign unbeaten.
For his first season at stud, he will be offered at 5,000€.
Sire of the winner of the Gr.1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris, Masked Marvel already counts 15 black-type performances among his progeny, including 8 victories during 2022 alone. The son of Montjeu has generated great interest in France and abroad, and his offspring have changed hands for up to 20 times his covering fee, reaching sums of £130,000, 110,000€, 100,000€, 85,000€, 82,000€ etc this year. Already full for the upcoming season, as for the four previous years, the rising star of the jumps scene will operate at a fee of 12,500€ in 2023.
Renowned for his exceptional racing career and outstanding physique, he who is still the best son of Saint des Saints at stud and leader of first-season-sires at Arqana’s sales in 2021, Goliath du Berlais is represented by his first yearlings this year. Goliath du Berlais has naturally received unstinting support from breeders since his first season at stud, covering 140, 131 and then 119 mares in 2022. He will continue at a fee of 7,500€ in 2023.
2021 arrival Latrobe already occupies a prominent position in the French jumps sires ranks. Out of a dam by Shamardal and a grandson of Montjeu, he is the only Gr.1 winning son of Camelot at stud in Europe. Winner of the Gr.1 Irish Derby , like Galileo, Montjeu, Soldier of Fortune or Dream Well, and runner-up in the Gr.1 Irish St Leger, Latrobe realised a superb racing career from 2 to 5 years old. His first foals will be represented at Arqana this year, including the brother of Gr.1 Triumph Hurdle scorer FARCLAS.
After covering 64 mares in his first season and 81 in 2022, Latrobe remains at a fee of 4,000€ for 2023.
The uncontested leader of National Hunt sires, Saint des Saints has accomplished another superb year with no less than 40 black-type performances including 14 victories, of which two at Gr.1 level thanks to GELINO BELLO and GENTLEMAN DE MEE. The stallion also counts 15 further black-type performances as a dam’s sire, including 4 Gr.1 wins thanks to JONBON, SEL JEM, ALTESSE DU BERLAIS and HAWAI DU BERLAIS; his status as a remarkable broodmare sire is thus confirmed. Saint des Saints’ fee of 15.000€ is unchanged for 2023, and he remains based at the Haras d’Etreham.
