Irish Derby winner LATROBE, by Camelot, joins the Haras d’Etreham roster of jumps stallions.

A close second on his only outing as a juvenile, Joseph O’Brien’s former charge thrived at three and four years old, showing great consistency and courage.

A winner or second on six of eight races as a three-year-old, Latrobe finished second in the Gr.3 Gallinule Stakes, Gr.1 Irish St Leger and Gr.1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington. His best performance of that season came when lifting the Gr.1 Irish Derby, ahead of Coolmore representatives Rostropovitch and the dual Group 1 winner and future sire Saxon Warrior. On the occasion of this victory, Latrobe beat 8 winners or future winners of 17 Group contests.

Still racing at the top level at four, Latrobe was placed in the Gr.3 Alleged Stakes on his seasonal debut, took second place in the Gr.2 International Curragh Cup and won the Gr.3 Ballyroan Stakes.

The handsome bay ended his racing career with earnings of over €1 million.

The best son of Camelot to date, Latrobe is the only Group 1 winner by his sire at stud in Europe. His dam Question Time, by the sought-after Shamardal, has produced three black-type winners. The pedigree of this new stallion features the bloodlines of Montjeu and Mr.Prospector.

Breeding rights are currently available.

Nicolas de Chambure declared, “We are very pleased to acquire Latrobe for his stallion career. We were searching for a top-class flat performer following the arrival on the French breeding scene of several Auteuil performers such as Goliath du Berlais. It is important to offer a variety of complementary stallion profiles to breeders. For example, the success of Poliglote demonstrated the value of Derby horses bringing an influence of speed and acceleration to French jumps broodmares. Latrobe fulfills this demand perfectly. He is a magnificent son of Camelot, who ran at two years old before winning the Irish Derby at three. He displayed great courage and a wonderful temperament when travelling successfully abroad. We invite breeders to view the stallion at the Haras de la Tuilerie.”
